Family and friends, this is your main missionary Elder Beck coming to you live from Barcelona! We are here in the city enjoying a breezy 79 degrees. As far as this week goes, it has been a good one. Lots of work, and lots of fun. Things just continue to keep on keeping.
Just wanted to give a quick apology. I wrote the email last week, I just forgot to send it. Haha, it was my year mark which makes it even more embarrassing. It's all good though. I will include it below! Read it. It was one I worked on.
This week was a great week as far as missionary work goes. We found two amazing people knocking doors. Aida is getting baptized the 23rd of September, and Georgina will be soon as well. They are both so prepared in the sense that they are willing to search. A pattern I have seen time and time again is that the people who want to know if this message is true, and I mean really want to know, they receive an answer. God never obligates us to search for him, but, He always answer if we ask with real intent.
This week for Preparation day we walked around Barç. It was such a nice day, and we mounted the famous lion statues, hence the title!
I´ll keep this week short so that you can read last weeks without getting bored. I am doing wonderful, and I love you all so much!
Oh Dear Brothers and Sisters,
There are no words to describe how I feel. My thoughts and emotions about this past year are so deep. I have had experiences that have changed me. I am a different person than before. I couldn´t be happier. This mission has been the most impactful thing I have ever done.
I think about the beginning days in Tarragona. I was a young missionary who didn´t know a word of Spanish, trying to share something that meant so much to me. Elder Dunn, Ramirez, and Christensen. Each of them changed my life in a different way. Elder Dunn taught me how to be myself. Elder Ramirez taught me how to cook and speak Spanish. Elder Christensen taught me how to be strong through trials. And all the miracles we saw there. Oscar, Marvis, Maria Carmen... So many people that I have grown to love with all my heart.
Then I made the big leap to Castellón. There with Elder Reddish I learned how to be tough. He was the grittiest person I have ever met, and it rubbed off on me. Walking those hot, lonely streets helped me to dig deep and work hard. We got to baptize Mouna, a muslim who became converted to Christ in one week. It was such a miracle. Elder Jones came and taught me how to be truly sincere. He is such a loving person. Then I went to Barç to be the Secretary.
Being here has taught me humility, and just how many weaknesses I have. I am grateful for it, and I wouldn´t trade this experience for the world. I have another 5 months here, and I could not be more excited for what´s ahead. Being able to work with President and his wife is the biggest life.
On a different note, you all heard about the crazy terrorist attacks that happened. Well, we have a crazy story.
As missionaries we have what is called areas. It´s the places we work in. The Plaza Catalunya, where the attack happened, is our area. We go there every single day. The attacks happened at 4:50 We were getting to leave the office at 5:25 to go there, when all of a sudden Hermana Dayton called us, and gave us a few things we needed to finish up. We left at 5:45 to go there, but at that point the metro shut down, and we were redirected to another. At that point we started sprinting around Barcelona to get back to the office to answer parents who were worried. We later learned that Hermana Dayton had received the distinct impression to call us. If she hadn´t called us, we would have been there, and we would have seen it. The people on the ground, the pain..... it would have scarred us for life. I am super grateful that we didn´t have to see it. My heart goes out to all those that did. The memorials were beautiful that they put up afterwards. I am grateful to know that God has a plan for us. Without knowing it, it would be impossible to understand. I know He knows us. I know it.
That´s it folks. I am so grateful I have another year here. The time is flying, but I am savoring every second of it. I love you all,
